Umatilla County Potato Show October 24, 2015
“An Old Fashioned Country Fair” held the Saturday before Halloween.
The Umatilla County Potato Show was started in the early 1920′s by the Weston Mountain Potato Growers Association. It became an annual event, with area growers competing for prizes with the many varieties of table and seed potatoes.
Later it became a show with exhibits of canned and baked foods, needlework, other fruits, vegetables, and flowers. A lunch, and dinner was served, bingo was played making a day for the entire family.
Today, the show has exhibits by local individuals, churches and organizations. There are few potatoes present, but vegetables and flowers make an appearance out of local gardens.
